Presenting 2025 Hotelie Hall of Fame Story - Richard "Rick" Adie '75
An excerpt from Rick's story...
Richard “Rick” Adie grew up in Chelmsford Massachusetts. His business career started early delivering TV Guides and then the local afternoon newspaper. He also worked after school at a drug store and at Dunkin Donuts.
As a lark in the summer of 1970, Rick sent letters to several hotels seeking a summer job on the Maine Coast. It was not his interest in hotels that encouraged this outreach, rather, the prospect of spending a summer on the seacoast. To his surprise, a letter offering a summer job arrived from the Marshall House in York Harbor, Maine. The Marshall House was a summer resort operated by the historic Pinehurst Resort. Rick reported to work in the housekeeping department and advanced quickly from houseperson duties to delivering ice to guestrooms, sometimes collecting a 25-cent tip.
