
Dr. Goetz Martius ‘78
The Cornell Hotel Society mourns the passing of Dr. Goetz Maritus ‘78. Goetz had a distinguished career as a hospitality industry accountant and advisor, and a was dedicated Hotelie who supported CHS. He passed on April 1, 2026.
Gabriele Maessen PDP ’01, President of the CHS Germany Chapter, prepared the following obituary on LinkedIn.
"It is with great shock and deep sadness that we share the news of the sudden passing of our esteemed Treasurer and colleague, Goetz Martius. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Ruth, his daughter, and his entire family.
Goetz earned his Bachelor of Science from the Cornell School of Hotel Administration (1974–1978) and later completed his doctorate (Dr. rer. pol., magna cum laude) at the Free University of Berlin in 1990.
His professional career included roles at KPMG in Berlin, Paris, and Munich, and later as Partner at Mazars, where he supported international clients.
As a founding member of the Cornell Hotel Society German Chapter e.V. in Berlin and long-standing Treasurer, he shaped our community with dedication, loyalty, and integrity.
We have lost not only an outstanding professional, but above all a remarkable person. He will remain in our memories through his vision, his care, and his strong commitment.
The funeral service will take place on April 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kirche Nikolassee, Kirchweg 21, 14129 Berlin.”
